Catch Up

Sorry everyone about the delay in posts. I had swine flu for a few weeks and had some log in issues.

Anyway, while I was running temperatures around 40 degress, Genoa started well against Roma. A see-sawing 3-2 win courtesy of goals from Criscito, Zapater and Biava.

Crisito’s goal was great instinct, Zapater had a bend it like Beckham moment and Biava had a poach it like Inzaghi moment to seal the win.

Of the two goals conceded, the first was poor defending, but you expect moments like that at the start of the season. The second goal was super unlucky and Amelia had no idea as Totti drove the ball through a bunch of players.

Biava should have been sent off on 75 minutes, but perhaps the football God’s decided to even out the luck a bit after Totti’s goal.

Next Genoa travelled to Atalanta and picked up a 1-0 win thanks to Emiliano Moretti’s header. Genoa were perhaps lucky to take the full 3 points from Atalanta, but it’s a tough road trip for any side and Genoa won’t mind how they got the points.

So after two weeks Genoa are top of the pile along with Juve, Lazio and city rivals Sampdoria.

So win Serie A returns, Genoa take on Napoli before matches against Slavia Prague, Chievo, Juventus and Udinese

I was tempted to make a swine flu joke. At least you’re back on your feet and writing again. All the best.

    @ Patcook – DAAAAAAAMMM!!

    R U feeling better now?

Anyways, just wanted to say your Genoa team looks mighty good. I think you have a really good shot of catching that 4th spot.

Those games in April when fitness, injuries and depth becomes issues will either make you or break you.

How does Genoa not have more fans. Probably the most exciting team in Serie A. And they have tons of Depth up top. Floccari, Crespo, Palladino, Sculli, Palacio, Bosko, Oliveria. They can go far with that type of depth.

With the amount of key players injured at this moment I was more worried about the start to this season. We are missing Juric, Jankovic, Palladino and Bocchetti. These were all regulars during the last season. We also missed Crespo, Kharja and Floccari. The real test will be the next home game vs Juventus.

As for the quantity of fans…this year, Genoa have sold the greatest amount of season tickets they have ever sold.

Internationally the club may be less known, but they are Italy’s oldest club. I often like to compare Genoa to the the likes of the Chicago Cubs (baseball club), a team with a great history, that have won numerous championships (9 in total) but over 80 years ago.

The rossoblu die hards have had many years of suffering, just like the Cubs die hards. But both fan bases are still there and will always be there.

So the question that must be posed is…is it best to have more fans or the most loyal fans?

    BD4M,

Im ok now, though I felt like sh*t for 4-5 days and took a few weeks to fully recover

I think Genoa have the depth, they just need to keep playing good, confident football.

    VBF,

I value loyalty very highly, though I guess ultimately you want a mix of loyal fans and glory fans who help fill your coffers even if they dont hang around
