Palermo hands Genoa a tough 2-1 defeat
By: j | September 21st, 2008
On the heels of last weeks glorious victory, the trip south to Sicily brought Il Grifone back to reality with a 2-1 loss. In many ways that scoreline was flattering as Palermo’s manager genius Davide Ballardini frustrated the Genoa’s attack and rarely provided sufficient scoring opportunities.
With Palermo definitely pushing the attack forward from the start of the match, Edison Cavani finally broke through for the home club six minutes before the break, scoring with a powerful streak off a Fabio Simplicio pass. Genoa came out with greater intent and definitely looked to have a spark with Serbian international Boško Janković entering the match ten minutes after the break although Palermo certainly had a firm grip of the match and a few minutes later Fabio Liverani set up Cesare Bovo, who who doubled the lead. The Rosanero continued to push forward even with the lead although they weren’t able to add the third. With time running out
Diego Milito added another goal to his resume, however Genoa was unable to level the match and Palermo left with a 2-1 victory.
This Wednesday Roma visits Genoa.

I’m happy to see Diego Milito keeping his usual stuff even though he had tough time last season at Real Zaragoza.
At least with his goal scoring exploit, who know maybe Genoa can push their luck for a place in the UEFA Cup.

Lorenzo-I agree with you. I am convinced Davide Ballardini will lead Palermo up the table. It would be great to see for my Sicilian friends -

What’s up with Gasbarroni? Is he shaking off an injury or something? I’ve always admired the way he plays and he is a big part of your side. I hope you guys get a good result tomorrow against Roma. Best of luck, J!
