Genoa v Torino match preview
By: j | January 9th, 2009Serie A action returns with Torino visiting Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Gian Piero Gasperini’s Rossoblu face down the second-half of the campaign nestled in sixth place with a firm goal of earning a spot in the Europa league. Opening at home after the break is a blessing for Genoa as they were unbeatable in the first half of the year. However to continue their run they likely will need to do so without the services of talismanic striker Diego Milito who is recovering from injury. On the opposite side Torino’s new manager Walter Novellino is buoyed by their 1-0 victory over Napoli before the break and former Sampdoria leader will be looking to upset the home side.
Tactically the Genoa attack will naturally change should Il Principe pass a late fitness test, however failing that I expect Giuseppe Sculli, Rubén Olivera and man Boško Janković to form the strike-force in their standard 3-4-3 formation. Marco Rossi, Thiago Motta, Ivan Jurić and Francesco Modesto will make up the midfield with Matteo Ferrari anchoring the backline and proving he is worthy a callup to the Azzurri along with collective of Domenico Criscito and Greek international Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Rubinho will once again be between the woodwork but the club is without Andrea Gasbarroni, Raffaele Palladino, Matteo Paro and Alessandro Potenza.
