Genoa v Roma match preview
By: j | February 7th, 2009Nestled in fourth place of the Serie A table the Rossoblu travel to Stadio Olimpico to face Roma on Sunday afternoon. With the campaign stampeding along in a thundering success the chances of a Champions League bid for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side is very real and yet one of the greatest challenges they will face in their own self-confidence.
Through the week, the talk from the club has been about the shock and surprise of being on the edge of winning a spot amongst Footballing elite. And while few would disagree, a team so focused upon the surprise of playing with the best is not ready to assail that mountaintop yet. The Grifone must summoned up the courage to fight for victory and not simply be satisfied with a fleeting chance at fame.
To say the Giallorossi will be a formidable opponent at home is an understatement. After the atrocious start they have rebounded and know that a victory in their fortress will see them level with visiting Genoa. Effectively this provides the inspiration for a champion to assail to their best and that my friends is a mountain for Genoa to climb. Oddly enough and in lieu of the opening statement to be victorious now, Genoa must be bold, audacious in-fact and seek not a draw but the victors chalice. To be victorious you must be bold and on the edge of greatness you cannot be timid.
For the match, Genoa’s only absence is Matteo Paro and while there is concern of Diego Milito’s health as he has been ill of late, he should be ready to go. Per recent play, the Grifone will go forward with the attacking trident of Diego Milito, Boško Janković and either Giuseppe Sculli or Thiago Motta up top but the back-line group of Giuseppe Biava, Matteo Ferrari, Salvatore Bocchetti and Domenico Criscito will hold the key to this match as they face the daunting task of Francesco Totti.
