Genoa v Napoli match preview
By: j | February 22nd, 2009
The Rossoblu travel to beautiful Napoli looking to regain their winning form that had saw them flirting with talks of the Champions League. However over last two weeks, they have stumbled with a dreadful 3-0 loss to Roma and followed up with a 3-3 draw to Fiorentina, in which defending collapsed late.
Gian Piero Gasperini is dealing with a host of pre-match fitness decisions that will dictate in lineup choices. Beyond Ivan Jurić and Giuseppe Biava, who are both in the sin-bin, Thiago Motta, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Marco Rossi, Anthony Vanden Borre and Boško Janković are all questionable. With so many late decisions there is a assortment of starting eleven possibilities. However assuming no difficulties, the manager is likely to go with Diego Milito teamed up front with Raffaele Palladino and Boško Janković or Giuseppe Sculli up-front. The back-line will likely feature Salvatore Bocchetti and Sokratis Papastathopoulos anchored by Matteo Ferrari with a central midfield of Omar Milanetto and Thiago Motta with Domenico Criscito and Marco Rossi in the wings.
Napoli is one of the toughest clubs to play at home in Serie A and a part of Genoa’s learning experience in climbing into the top six is knowing how to overcome these types of roadblocks. Defending and patience is key the Grifone in the match as Napoli is anxious to stop their six match win-less streak.
