Genoa v Lecce match preview
By: j | January 17th, 2009Following last weeks resounding 3-0 triumph over Torino, the Rossoblu are perched in fifth position in the table. Whilst far beyond expectations at the start of the campaign, Gian Piero Gasperini is staring straight at a spot in European competition and knows he now leads a club that others target.
While the constant mutterings of Diego Milito being a transfer target, if Genoa is to attain their goals they must learn to win on the road. The sputtering attack and troubled defending can no longer be a trait and it must start later today against relegation threatened Lecce. Nestled two-points above Torino in the final relegation spot, Mario Beretta’s side is brimming with confidence following last weeks 2-1 over Fiorentina. In support of their cause, they have shown a tenacity to defend at home and Genoa will find the going uphill as the Giallorossi lock down the match.
The Rossoblu are without Salvatore Bocchetti, who is in the sin-bin as well injured forces Raffaele Palladino, Andrea Gasbarroni and Matteo Paro. Prior to the match along Diego Milito will undergo a fitness test and if healthy Il Principe will be in the lineup. Once again Gian Piero Gasperini will utilize the strike force tandem of Giuseppe Sculli, Rubén Olivera and Serbian international Boško Janković upfront with Matteo Ferrari holding down a strong defending line.
