Genoa v Fiorentina match preview
By: j | February 13th, 2009
Following last weeks abysmal 3-0 loss to Roma, the Rossoblu welcome Fiorentina to Stadio Luigi Ferraris. With the Viola only one point above Genoa, the match is a crucial six point affair in which both sides will fighting for the much needed win.
The test for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side is how they respond to the challenge and whether they can restore the “fight” that they exuded during their recent unbeaten string. Heading into the Roma match they spoke rarely of “attacking” or going for the win and the scale of their loss was highly predictable. For Genoa to win a Champions League spot, they will need to be more aggressive and attack challenges and not back down. Last week, they didn’t simply back down, they didn’t even advance towards the challenge.
For the match Genoa will be without Giuseppe Sculli who is in the sin-bin but are also facing late decisions on Rubinho, Ivan Jurić, Marco Rossi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Giuseppe Biava, Anthony Vanden Borre and Serbian international Boško Janković. Cesare Prandelli’s squad will miss the services of Felipe Melo and there is some concern of the health of Adrian Mutu, Alberto Gilardino and Dario Dainelli but all are expected to be ready for this critical match.
While Genoa has many late decisions that will impact, such as whether Alessio Scarpi will need to step in for Rubinho between the posts, Matteo Ferrari will anchor the back line in a key structural point of their 3-4-3 formation. With the return to health of Raffaele Palladino, he is likely to join the attacking trident of Diego Milito and Boško Janković up-front.

THNAK YOU THANK YOU J!
Thanks for posting for Genoa! You are a person that I truly enjoy reading. Although I’m a Romanista, I am a lover of Calcio, so I hop from blog to blog whenever I have time and support the teams that I find worthy of some respect.
Anyways, please keep up the good work and know that there are people that read your blog!

I forgot to write that I wish Genoa much luck and success against Fiorentina.
Although Genoa is in a battle with Roma for 4th place, along with Fiorentina, if I had to chose, I would rather see Genoa succeed than Fiore.
Anyways, I hope Milito, Janković, and Palladino make an awsome impact. Buona fortuna!

Pauly WaLNuts / Nicoli: Thank you for dropping-by. I don’t get many visitors so its always nice to hear from people.
Genoa is a fascinating club as amongst other reasons, they are “learning how to win.” Last week was a big set-back as they really went into the match against Roma without the mindset to win.
This will be exciting and I have few friends coming in for it and another one we’re likely to go to a night – should be a fun day.
Thanks again and all the best.

After the match against Fiorentina, you would think that as a Romanista, I would be happy for the draw. Not at all. My team played like S#&% and they deserved to lose.
Anyways, I saw 3/4 of the Genoa game because I coulnd’t find a feed to my game. I’m shocked and disappointed that Genoa’s defense collapsed and ended up drawing to Fiore. To make things even worse, to have Mutu score that goal in the last second was totally heart-breaking!
