Genoa v Catania match preview
By: j | January 23rd, 2009
The Rossoblu welcome Catania to Stadio Luigi Ferraris in an intriguing match-up of two clubs celebrating brilliant campaigns. For my Sicilian friends, the great escape from relegation last year which included successive draws to Juventus and Roma in the final weeks as continued with confident mid-table play. While Serie A is not short of great stories this year, certainly the work of Walter Zenga in turning the Rossazzurri of beautiful Catania is one of them.
With regards to the match, if features a curious match-up of Genoa who yet to lose at home versus a Catania who has equally failed to win on the road this year. For the visitors, they concluded 2008 with a affirming victory over Roma but have since stumbled out of the gate against Juventus and Siniša Mihajlović’s surging Bologna. While on paper they is troubling for the Sicilian side to drop points against either side is far from alarming and in-fact it might be further impetus to see them rebound on Sunday.
For the match, Catania will be without Mariano Izco who is in the sin-bin as well as Tricolorii cappped Nicolae Dică. Gian Piero Gasperini will have Diego Milito available for the match and will team up-front with Giuseppe Sculli and Boško Janković. The Grifone will however be missing Raffaele Palladino, Andrea Gasbarroni and Matteo Paro with Marco Rossi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos questionable.
