Genoa v AC Milan match preview
By: j | January 27th, 2009Following a disappointing draw at home to Catania, Genoa travel to San Siro to face a surging AC Milan side. The Rossoneri’s 4-1 dismantling of Bologna on Sunday was led by Kaká brilliant performance as well as a revitalized David Beckham, showing a level of conviction on the pitch that hasn’t been seen in years. For Genoa the match is of critical importance, given Napoli and Roma are within three points and a loss would be troublesome step towards their European hopes.
For the match Gian Piero Gasperini will need to go forward without key defender Matteo Ferrari who is in the sin-bin after receiving a red card in the Catania match as well as Andrea Gasbarroni, Matteo Paro, Alessio Scarpi and Alessandro Potenza to injury. The absence of Matteo Ferrari is particularly problematic against the likes of Kaká, Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato and Azzurri capped Andrea Pirlo and place an enormous burden upon the back line. Of special interest for the match the Rossoblu are indicating the use of a 3-4-1-2 formation, with Thiago Motta as trequartista in support of Diego Milito and Boško Janković up top. The back line trio, from the likes of Salvatore Bocchetti, Giuseppe Biava, Salvatore Bocchetti and Sokratis Papastathopoulos could hold the key to this match.
