Genoa is not willing to negotiate on Diego Milito
By: j | January 2nd, 2009With Diego Milito one of the most sought after players in Serie A, Genoa President Enrico Preziosi is being very clear that there will no negotiations when it comes to the sharpshooter.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport he acknowledged contact with Inter Milan but reaffirmed he is unwilling to negotiate.
“But I have already advised him (Inter Milan’s Marco Branca) not to enter any kind of negotiations. It’s not happening, we are not even willing to negotiate.”
Although paying €12m, he would not be inclined to take a sizable profit on a deal:
“I paid Milito €12 million this summer and I would not change my mind, even if I was presented with a €25m or €30m offer.”
Like much of Football is he is fond of eighteen year-old striker Mario Balotelli and notes he would be interested in turning the tables on Inter and bringing the Italy U21 international to Genoa:
“I would love to see him (Mario Balotelli) partner with Diego and if Inter want to sell him, I am ready to negotiate, but without involving Milito.”

I’m confident (hopefully not naively so), that Milito will remain in Rossoblu through the end of the season. But I expect him to be sold–assuming his brilliant form holds–during the summer, probably to Juve.
Would a UEFA Cup entry next season be enough to keep him in Marassi?

I am hopeful as well however I question if a deal was presented that would see a €18m+ gain in the winter of 2009 be turned down. Do you think this is just posturing for a high bid?

I can’t imagine him joining Juve. We have Amauri, ADP, Trez, Giovinco, and Iaquinta up front…we have enough troubles figuring out how they are all going to play.
