AC Milan match review
By: j | September 14th, 2008With Genoa’s extraordinary 2-0 victory over AC Milan behind us, I’m going to cut right to the chase and reaffirm my earlier comments that I felt this was a very opportune time to play them. Not only have their new players not gelled as a team but they were obviously dealing with tremendous fatigue from international duty. Respectfully and I do wish to stress that point, it seemed that some on the pitch lacked passion in defending the honour of the Rossoneri.
With that now said Gian Piero Gasperini put forth a brilliant tactical plan, respected AC Milan’s attack and dictated their offense by fortifying defensively and sprung upon weaknesses with patience. It was brilliant coaching and a lesson in tactical play. Giuseppe Sculli gave the home squad the lead at the thirtieth minute mark with a strike within the area to the lower corner of the net. Through the balance of the half Genoa controlled the majority of the play with AC lacking the legs to really attack. Primarily, it appeared that Kaká and Ronaldinho were far from one-hundred per-cent and questionably match-fit. Marco Borriello and Clarence Seedorf were brought in after the break to spark the Rossoneri’s attack but they had only modest success at challenging Rubinho and I would still contend this match was won by Genoa because of greater desire and tactical play. To complete the day and his triumphant return to Genoa, Diego Milito added a penalty strike in added time after he was tripped up in the area by Paolo Maldini.
Time to turn to next week in which Genoa faces Palermo.

Like everyone has said, Genoa were great today! They never stopped running, and in so doing ran rings around Milan! Milito and Sculli were great, but Gasbarroni was a beast! No surprise; he’s a former Juventino
I hope the season continues in this vein. It’s always nice to see the big boys getting felled! Who would have thought that at any point of the season Fiorentina, Roma and Milan would all have been in the bottom 6 spots?! Great stuff!
Hopefully next to be felled will be Inter; they have Torino next week. Come on Torino! Make your city cousins proud!

Major congrats from this Milan fan. I’ve cursed my team out enough over at the Milan Offside, but definitely kudos to you guys. Absolutely killer in counterattacks, you were.

I want to further Hana’s congrats, lots of good stuff today, Criscito put Kaka in his back pocket today and Milan was totally outclassed tactically. Well played and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks everyone for commenting and the well wishes – they’re very appreciated.
Nnahoj – ahh a Toro fan. I watch Torino closely and was very happy when Rolando Bianchi joined them. I’m hopeful he’ll find his old scoring ways.
Bob7th – thank you
Hana and Gianfranco – very kind of you to say. I honestly think much better days are ahead for the Rossoneri.
Please drop by again and as always I appreciate your opinions.

Nnahoj is actually a Juventino.
I was really hoping we didn’t loan out Criscito again, and supposedly he had a monster game today. I wonder if he wants to return.

Milan could have benefited more from a player like Milito rather than Ronaldhino & Shevchenko. Those two are more or less an expired items.

j, I still say that Ferrari was key to this win. He had Kaka then Borriello in his pocket. He played a great game and was a super buy for the team. As much as I wanted him for Inter, we have 6 center backs already, what would we do with a 7th?

Ferrari did play well, and coupled with Crisicito he left the Milan strikers looking very very bad.
John, I cant help but think how different things would have looked if Adebayor had been brought in…

wow…look at all these comments. Our secret little spot is getting crowded here – lol.
John: I really liked your blog. I’ll visit a bit later but if you want photos just let me know as I have many you might like.
Johonna: I agree with you to a large extent but I also think Milan was stumbling around and not quite sure tactically. I think we’ll see different results against FC Zürich and Lazio this week.

Good Job…Genoa played determined, passionate & well organized football.
They never let Milan breath, smothering them and constantly put pressure on the ball the rarle occasions Milan had it.
As you stated in your post the coachin was brillant as was the excecution.
Next time we meet we’ll get our revenge!

Giro, yeah, he was a bit better when he left. I don’t blame him, we did not integrate him well at all. Fourth Serie A game ever, and he has to mark Totti, even though Totti fouled and was offside for his two goals. He’s on loan, we were paid 1.5million euros for this years loan, I don’t know if he’ll want to come back. Maybe if we play him properly.
